2016 marks the 20th Anniversary of Tzu Chi International Medical Association(TIMA), 30th Anniversary of Hualien Tzu Chi Hospital and half a century since the founding of Tzu Chi Foundation, coincidentally adding up to exactly 100. Coming together from around Taiwan, all volunteers were earnestly looking forward to the TIMA Convention and working diligently to welcome members from around the world.
Responsible for looking after a total of 600+ participants and 500+ staff, the medical team is challenged with a great task. Ms. Zeng Mei Yu who is in charge this year, has been a TIMA member for 20 years. She has participated TIMA convention in the past years except in 2009, when she was away for work to Germany.
“Although most of the participants are medical staff and pharmacists, the changes in living environment, style of food and busy schedules may cause discomfort. In that case, the medical station is all set to cater for their needs,” said Sister Mei Yu.
This year, the medical station is stationed with 2 doctors, 2 Chinese Herbal Medicine doctors, 4 nurses and 2 pharmacists. Volunteer Mei Yu said, “This event will also be assisted by staff from Hualien Tzu Chi Hospital. As for medication, it will be provided by Taiwan TIMA Eastern branch director-general Mr. Lin Yong Sen.”
“As the participants are accommodated separately at the Tzu Chi Global Dormitory and Jing Si Hall, the medical team is also divided to 2, to cater for any emergencies at night. We also asked the TIMA members to fill in questionnaires when they apply, to be advised if they have any personal situations or chronic diseases that may need assistance. Furthermore, we need to make sure there are plenty medic-aid, pain relief patches and ointment for cuts and burns as there are many staff working in the kitchen.”
Volunteer Mei Yu sincerely wishes for the success of this convention. “The medical team is well set up. We hope everyone enjoys the lectures and discussions, and be able to learn the precious experiences from all TIMA members around the world.”
