The first class on Sept. 12, the 2nd day of the 2019 TIMA Annual Convention, is hosted by Dr. Lee Yi, an anesthesiologist at Hualien Tzu Chi Hospital and also a host of Da Ai TV program. He will give the current picture on Hualien Tzu Chi Hospital.

Tzu Chi Hospitals are some of the few hospitals in Taiwan combining western medicine and traditional Chinese medicine for treatment. Today, Dr. Lin Shinn-Rong, Superintendent of Hualien Tzu Chi Hospital, and Dr. Ho Tsung-Jung, Vice Supt. and director of Chinese Medicine Dept. of Hualien TC Hospital, both invited by Dr. Lee Yi, stepping on stage to give the share with the TIMA members how it works.

For those complicated diseases - Hydrocephalus, Parkinson's disease, etc., Dr. Lin can diagnose exactly what the disease is with western medicine protocol, and do the following treatments step by step, such as installing LP shunt, etc. Then, Dr. Ho helps the patients to do rehabilitation in traditional way, such as using acupuncture, etc. In Tzu Chi hospitals, the Chinese medicine doctors (practitioners) often are allowed to attend the Emergency room or ICUs to discuss the best treatment solution.

It impressed all the audience that in the video, the elder gentleman, 89 years old, dances so well, who was unable to walk for quite a long time due to Hydrocephalus and sent to the hospital unconsciously from Kaohsiung to Hualien 6 years ago. It self explains that the combination treatment for the western and Chinese medicine goes so well and this pioneering process are benefiting many patients.

Furthermore, Dr. Chen Shin-Yuan, Chief of Functional Neurosurgery Dept., one of Supt. Lin Shinn-Rong’s students, now the professional authority for curing Hydrocephalus, stepped on the stage to introduce the new treatment, so called DBS (Deep Brain Stimulation).

Dr. Chang Jui-Chih, who graduated from Tzu Chi Medical University and got the Ph.D. from Duke University in USA. He introduced another pioneering technology & equipment (Hybrid OR) on Cardiac Surgery for CAD (coronary artery disease). It used to take more than ten hours for the traditional surgery and now it would be within one hour and patient can discharge from the hospital in 3 days. Dr. Chang expresses his gratitude to Master Cheng Yen and Tzu Chi for giving him the opportunity to implement technology in the hospital.

Finally, it surprised all that Dr. Lai Pei-Fang, the young and beautiful lady, is the director of Emergency Medicine Dept. of Hualien Tzu Chi Hospital. To avoid any mistakes happening at Emergency Room, due to too panic, they develops the computer system, called ACLS Information Assist System. Dr. Lai brought their emergency team to the stage to demonstrate their team work following the computer system. Tzu Chi medical team keeps updated no matter for hardware or software technology.

Surprisingly young and beautiful Dr. Lai Pei-Fang, is the chief of Emergency Medicine Dept.
