As of 2017, Tzu Chi International Medical Association (TIMA) has members in 12 countries and regions. With over 17,000 members, including nearly 9,000 medical professionals and nearly 8,000 non-medical professional volunteers, it becomes a well-organized medical service organization.

In order to welcome TIMA members from home and abroad, Tzu Chi volunteers had arrived at the Jing Si Hall one day before the convention began. On September 21, all of the 94 team leaders were a meeting. Every one of them was carefully listening to the report and taking notes mindfully in order not to miss any detail.

Denice Monica Sy, a staffer of Tzu Chi Foundation, said, “the participants speak Chinese, English, Thai, Vietnamese, etc.” There are 29 interpreters and 7 translators. Thus, she carefully taught the team leaders how to use the receivers.

The vice coordinator of team leaders, Li Qiu-yue, reminded the team leaders that they’re persons who demonstrate Tzu Chi’s etiquette best. She also emphasized on self-discipline. Team leaders should be punctual, wisely respond to problems, and act properly. Li explained everything in detail and in a humorous way. Everyone laughed with heart. She especially reminded the team leaders that even though they are experienced, they should see every time as their first time.

Li Qiu-yue asked, “Who has been serving as a team leader for at least five years?” Many people raised their hands.
