No Regrets

Written and photographed by Yi Lee

There is a love,
exists between two persons.
It’s power, enormous and shapeless,
can bring a person to unhesitatingly,
allow stomach be opened,
only to save the life of another,
a complete stranger.

There is a love,
exists between two persons.
It’s superior surgical skills,
precise anesthesia, tender nursing,
unrequitedly, build a bridge safe and secure,
only to grant this hope of love, to return this gaze of anticipation
with perfect realization.
Thus, at this very moment,
mother and son, share a new life together.
The beautiful scar on the mother’s belly,
is the solemn ceremony of love,
bearing eternal witness to memorable, unregretful moment.

Yi Lee is a senior anesthetist, an associate professor of Tzu Chi University Medical School, as well as a Da Ai T.V. show host, a writer, and a photographer.
As a sentimentalist, he was filled with passion for creative arts.
Ever since he first picked up his father’s treasured camera and shot his first train, a 30-year long photography career unfolded.
When this passionate literati chose to study medicine,
he chose anesthetics, working in operation rooms year after year.
“People tend to think of operation room as a cold and bloody space.
I want to combine my medical profession and my eyes as a photographer,
using the simply black and white photos, to depict the harmonious doctor-patient relationships, the dedications of doctors and nurses to their practice, and the self-reflections of patients due to their illnesses.”

【Timeless Moments】

Hospitals are pagodas where lives are saved and love accumulates,
as well as stages where people meet and part,
births and deaths loop,
twenty-four-seven non-stop.

Every moment a heart-warming tale.
When the shutter releases, through the mind’s eye,
the moment when lives interweave are captured,
and the profound emotional experience remembered.
