Father and Son

Written and photographed by Yen-Ta Huang

I often pass hastily through this corridor in the hospital.
I’ve never noticed that great sights could hide in these tiny passages.
One night, I was rushing through as I have done numerous times before.
A young boy carefully walked by his father’s side whose arms were around the son for comfort and support;
They were inching forward leisurely.
The scene captivated my hasty pace in a flash.
The hospital is not a cold place.
Warmth is in places that we often miss.

Postscript

In good weather, Hualien’s sky is very clear. Looking out from the dormitory, you can see the ocean directly. Simply from one angle, I would experiment shots with different cameras, apertures, and shutter speeds.
For a long time, my life is circling around Tzu Chi University and Tzu Chi Hospital, and nowhere else. Just the Jing Si Park area along in the past few years, I probably have shot more than ten thousand photos.
I am almost buried by the huge amount of photos I have taken. But frankly, no matter how you frame your shots here, it looks gorgeous. I think I will probably continue doing this forever!

【Timeless Moments】

Hospitals are pagodas where lives are saved and love accumulates,
as well as stages where people meet and part,
births and deaths loop,
twenty-four-seven non-stop.

Every moment a heart-warming tale.
When the shutter releases, through the mind’s eye,
the moment when lives interweave are captured,
and the profound emotional experience remembered.
